When in México…

Mexico is the place where it all started, the cradle of our modern Huaraches (want to know the full story? Check out this page). The people are friendly, the food is delicious, and you can enjoy various markets under the hot Mexican sun. If you’re undecided where to go for holidays this summer, Mexico is the place to be! Here is some inspiration about some of the best places you can visit.

6. The Island of Dolls “Isla de las Muñecas”
Story goes that decades ago, a little girl drowned in the canals of Xochimico. Not too long after this incident, hermit Don Julian Santana, who lived alone on the island despite having a family, started fishing dolls out of the canals. He believed that this was a sign from the evil spirit of the girl, and decided to hang up the dolls he found all over the island for his protection. The island soon became a shrine with a very eerie landscape.  You can imagine that this is probably one of the most eccentric places to visit, and you need to have a strong mind to get through this shrine, but at the same time there is no other place in the world like it!

5. (Popocatépetl) Volcano
Mexico has a beautiful landscape with more than 30 active volcanoes to visit. One of the most popular volcanoes in the world is the Popocatepetl volcano with a staggering height of over 5.000 meters. Recently it has been declared to be too active, so it is closed to climbing. Parícutin and Citlaltépetl are great alternatives for hiking instead, offering  amazing views at the peak.

4. Guadalajara
The colonial streets of Guadalajara and countless museums offers plenty of opportunities for some culture sniffing. During nighttime, you can get your hips loose in one of the nightclubs downtown.

3. Cancún
Cancún is known for its crazy parties bordering the Caribbean Sea. Depending on what you want to do on holidays, you can decide to check out this city. Even though the nightlife is popular, it has much more to offer than just parties. With its white beaches, resorts, spas, and even Mayan ruins near little villages, Cancún has the whole package.

2. Mexico city
Mexico city is the densely populated capital of Mexico. It has plenty of cultural landmarks such as the Palacio Nacional, the famous Templo Mayor which was one of the main temples of the Aztec people, the Arena México in which you can experience lucha libre, a form of professional wrestling developed in Mexico for entertainment. Mexico city is a vibrant place where you can find countless attractions and won’t be bored for one second!

1. Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá
Mexico has a long history, with the Aztec empire having left an impressive mark on Mexican ground. The ruins at Chichén Itzá are declared as one of the seven world wonders, which makes it worthwhile to check out the geometrically fascinating pyramid. Even though this may be one of the most famous remains of the Mayan culture, all around Mexico there are complexes that are equally stunning. In Teotihuacán, or the City of Gods, for example, a complex of 600 pyramids will make your cultural senses explode, just like the UNESCO World Heritage designated Mayan city Uxmal will blow your mind with its aesthetically pleasing architecture.

These are only some suggestions, but you can find a nice place to lie to in the sun, enjoy some margaritas, or indulge in Mexican culture at every corner. So if you’re uncertain where to go this summer, now you know!
